The way we'll work: Report by the University Alliance

The University Alliance has published a new report which shows the UK needs more graduates. The report concludes that contrary to popular belief, labour market indicators suggest that there is a shortage of graduates in the UK, not a surplus.

The report demonstrates that technological development have changed and continue to change the way people work and that the structure of the labour market. These changes have resulted in an increased demand for graduate attributes, in the work place which will only increase over the next few decades. In light of these projections, the Alliance questions the Government’s decision to cut around 25,000 university places for next year.

It goes on to demonstrate that it may be vital for the UK's global competitiveness for there to be a greater proportion of graduates in the workforce.  It also highlights the need to improve social mobility by creating genuine progression and promotion opportunities.
