A worthwhile experience or a wasted opportunity?
An article in this week’s TES has written about the increasing importance of work experience for pupils to achieve the career that they want.
However new research is suggesting that those from private schools are far more likely to achieve real benefits from a period of work experience than those from the state sector.
A YouGov poll of 19 to 24-year-olds carried out on behalf of Education and Employers Taskforce, earlier this year on found that 81 per cent of those who attended private schools believed work experience at school had helped them decide on a job, compared with just 59 per cent of former grammar pupils and 54 per cent of those who attended comprehensives.
